This department is established in 1999.  There are four classes divided by age.  Class size ranges between 10 and 20 students.  The age of the students is from 3 to 6.

There are two major purposes for the KD.  One is to provide a safe, healthy, and joyful environment for children from the community in Chutung area in which they can grow to be a person of wisdom, courage and kindness.  The other is to provide opportunities for the children to be exposed to English and western culture so that they can develop multi-cultural and broad-minded characters to bridge communication difficulties among peoples.

The English teacher is usually required to work from 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.  Two or three times in each semester (there are two semesters in a year), teachers are required to attend an extra-curriculum activity or open house on one of the Saturdays/Sundays or weekday evenings. Besides classroom teaching, teachers are required to attend meetings, develop curriculum & materials, assess students’ performance and take field trips. The English teacher works independently with the children when the class size is smaller than 15 students.  A Chinese speaking assistant is available when the teacher needs him/her.  There will be a all-day assistant that stays in class when the number of the students is more than 15.
