Visa Information

CANADIAN INFO

For Canadians planning to work in Taiwan, you need to apply for a visitor visa first. Once in Taiwan your visitor visa can be changed to an Alien Residence Card (ARC) allowing you to legally work in Taiwan.

The visitor visa process is pretty quick and painless.  Here are the things you will need to apply:

l          An airline ticket or flight itinerary

l          A contact name in Taiwan (Kang Ning)

l          A valid passport with at least six months validity remaining.

l          A bank statement, proving that you have enough money to sustain 2 months of living expenses in Taiwan.  (They will not check you on this, so if you are running low on money you can deposit money into your account, print a receipt and then withdraw it right away).

l          A copy of your teaching contract

l          Passport size photos

l          An application form, which can be collected from the Taiwanese Embassy or any Taipei Liason Office.

The visitor's passport must remain valid for at least six months from the date of entry. If you don't have at least six months' validity remaining on your Canadian passport, immigration officials at the Taiwan airport where you land will probably refuse you entry and deport you back to the point of origin of your incoming flight.

There are two main types of visitor visa: one month and 60 days. One-month visas cannot be extended. Sixty-day visas are normally extendable for legitimate reasons. A maximum of two extensions of 60 days each can be granted, for a total of six months. Extensions may be obtained from any city or county police headquarters in Taiwan. After you have had the maximum of two extensions, you must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC). The forms can be obtained from city or county police headquarters.  Kang Ning will assist teachers with their ARC.  Teachers only need to acquire a visitor visa prior to departure.
